We are excited to report — thanks to our partnership with World Literacy Foundation — Budding Reader eBooks are now being used by nonprofit organizations in two more countries: Papua New Guinea and Ethiopia. Here are some fun facts about these countries and the small role we’ll play there.
Papua New Guinea
Located in the southwest Pacific Ocean just north of Australia, Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Over 800 different languages are used in this small country of 7 million people. Budding Reader eBooks will be used by 1000 local Primary school students in conjunction with the nonprofit, Melanesia Education Development Foundation.
The most populous landlocked country in the world, Ethiopia, is located in the horn of Africa. One group of Ethiopians in this multilingual and multiethnic country is called the Gedeo People. Approximately 5,000 people from this group will be using Budding Reader eBooks to learn to read. The Gedeo People are also planning to translate our books into their 10 local languages so that children can learn to read two languages side-by-side.
The most gratifying part of Budding Reader is the joy we experience by giving away our eBooks to people who want to learn to read. We know that literacy is vitally important and, just like World Literacy Foundation, strongly believe that eradicating illiteracy is the best way to eradicate poverty. Doesn’t it feel good that your purchases of Budding Reader eBooks are making such a positive difference in the lives of others?
